THE SHIPPING FORECAST

It’s five o’clock another morning dawns

Still this sadness, this emptiness

My  bed, my room, but in the hostile gloom

Shadows dance out an S.O.S

Sleeping fitful, sad and fearful

Lone and stranded, all at sea

I am shipwrecked,

Lost and storm tossed

And I cling to sanity

Cromarty, Irish Sea,

Trafalgar and Tyne

Lullaby of Lundy

Rockall will be fine

It’s roaring in the Forties

Rough over Wight

Dogger forth to Humber

Till we reach first light

Dream Faroes and heroes

Fitzroy and Sole

Fastnet my phantoms

And cradle my soul

Gale warnings in the mornings

Grow moderate to fair

Rain at first, becoming good

A sailor’s prayer.

Backing Northwest to Bailey

Don’t let German Bight

Fisher on to Portland

Till it all comes right

Dream Fair Isle and Viking

Send demons to hell

No Malin it’s Dover

Biscay – all is well

Gale warnings in the mornings

Grow moderate to fair

Rain at first, becoming good

A sailor’s prayer.
